Shamanic workshops and retreats offer a unique opportunity to learn from the authentic traditions of Peruvian and Brazilian shamanic traditions in their native environment. The program is also an intense way to examine one’s life, let go of the past, catch vision of the future and connect with spirit.
There are several big differences between the Temple of Inner Peace and other shamanic retreat centers. First, the focus of the temple is on healing. Shaman Javier DaSilva works primarily with the native Peruvian population, healing dozens of patients on a daily basis. This is very different from the touristic shamanism approach of most other centers and offers one an insider view into how shamanic healing functions in Peru.
The second thing you will see perhaps only in our Temple has to do with our Maestro”s background. Javier DaSilva is a Brazilian medium, which means that he often channels disembodied spirits during ceremonies. It is something quite strange and fascinating to watch. During the course of my apprenticeship, I have seen Javier channel spirits of mermaids, mythological creatures, forest spirits, angels, his own maestros, ancient indian healers, dead relatives of his patients, and a host of other entities. During the times he channels, Javier’s voice and personality change, and he often sings songs quite distinct from his regular icaros.
It must be said that a retreat in Peru is a challenging experience, and is definitely not for everyone. One sure thing is that staying at the Temple can satisfy even the most seemingly insatiable curiosity. Often the intensity of the experience prompts one to stop the using of all plant and chemical substances and seek a more natural and purely spiritual direction in life.
