Apprenticeship Questions

  1. Where do I send money to (addresses), and how soon before I come should I send it? On the website under “About Us -> Payments and Deposits”  Please send the down payment at least 3 weeks before coming.
  2. Will there be a translator at the center in the jungle? I have some very basic Spanish and I am trying to learn more before I come.
There is almost always a translator, but definitely learn as much as you can… Michel Thomas Spanish courses are really good and quick  (download from torrents if you know how)
  3. Once I am off the plane, will someone from the center be there to pick me up?
Yes, not in Lima but in Iquitos, someone will meet you.
  4. Once there, will Javier and I have a talk to discuss my intentions and what he thinks is best for me. After, with an apprenticeship, how periodically do I talk with Javier to discuss it with him? I know in the video I heard that the plants do most of the teaching, but I would also like to learn about the plants and medicinal uses besides just doing a diet. Is this how it works?
Definitely.. Discuss your plans first, then just talk with Javier as much as you want… Don’t worry about bothering him.. Just talk to him.. Sometimes you have to keep reminding him of stuff… So if you say something once and he doesn’t do it, just tell him again.  And apart from Javier, other people at the center know a lot about plants too… But you will not have an interpreter 24/7 so learn as much Spanish as you can so you can talk with them.
  5. Can and will I have internet access once a week if I go in Iquitos, or will this interfere with the apprenticeship?
You could go out, maybe not every week..  Because if you do a 7 day diet that usually means a few more days of preparation/relaxation.. But you could probably go once every two weeks, spend a night at a decent hostel, maybe some place with a hot shower, and come back the next day… Or you could even go out and take a trip somewhere to a beach etc…
You will see how you feel.. For me it was very difficult to go to the city and back.. Always adjusting and readjusting, and I found the city very difficult after the forest
  6. Staying for two months is there anyway I can get my own hut?
You certainly will.  Unless the center is extremely busy, all visitors who prefer their own hut will have it, especially those staying long term.

Just be careful with water and food… Drink bottled water and be careful about drinks on the street.. I was fine but anther person got sick…  And try to not get stung by mosquitos too much.   Other than that, it’s pretty safe… There is almost no violent crime in Iquitos at all.
